One of the great delights of Adelaide is that, within an hour or two of the city centre, you can find some of the loveliest spots in the world. And, given that SA is the heart of the Australia’s wine industry, it’s not surprising that most of these areas are wine regions. No visit to Adelaide is complete without a visit to at least one of these spots. Here are our tips for what to see and do when you get there.
- The Adelaide Hills
- The Southern Vales
- The Barossa
- Victor Harbour, Port Elliot, Middleton, and Goolwa
It’s worth noting that each wine region has an annual food and wine celebration: Crush in January in the Adelaide Hills; Harvest in the Southern Vales, also in January; the Vintage Festival in late March in the Barossa. Don’t get me wrong; these are great events where each district really shows off its wares. Well worth attending. But for real wine lovers, the quieter weekends (or even quieter weekdays) are unbeatable.
